Pilates Mat class with Kim Root
Saturdays at 1:15pm - 2:15pm
Kim's Pilates mat classes emphasize strengthening the core of the body and enhancing awareness of physical alignment and efficiency of movement. Through a series of simple, precise and challenging exercises, participants are able to develop strength, length, flexibility, balance, and tools to improve posture and reduce habitual tension. Participants are coached through each exercise with an emphasis on motivating movement with breath, sensing the flow of energy through the body, focusing on lengthening the body through physical exertion, and finding efficiency and ease of physical effort in areas of habitual tension. Additionally, we work on developing muscular balance, discovering/sensing/observing the relationship of body parts (otherwise referred to as alignment), and tuning in to one's own habits, strengths and weaknesses so that change and growth can continue beyond class time.
Kim has been teaching Pilates since 1998 when she was certified through The Pilates Studio, in Seattle, Washington.
